Thanks for the advice. I have seen a lactation consultant, while I was in the hospital, as well as getting the advice of every single nurse I could before I left. As far as just generally breastfeeding, everything was going right before I left. I don't know of any other position to hold him in that doesn't require him lying down, but I think my supply is already getting better just from pumping more regularly.
We've talked to the pediatrician about his spitting up. He just says that it's normal and can even get worse before 4 months old. We are trying to burp him more often and hold him more upright, and both seem to be helping. I was worried it might be reflux, but it actually doesn't match up with the symptoms mentioned online. So, we're still keeping an eye out, but I think that he just eats too much too fast and if he changes positions (lying down to sitting up) too quickly, his body can't handle it. My mom says I was a spitter-upper too. Perhaps he just takes after me :-)
Thanks again, though. I hope things are going well with you.
I'm a person who finds delight in many different things. I enjoy interacting with all sorts of people. I take comfort in the variety and diversity of others. People inspire me. Art and nature color my life. Music moves my very soul. My faith in God empowers me. Working with my hands drives me. Love and family make life worth living.
I'm currently a work at home Mom and wife of 15 years to my high school sweetheart. I spend most of my days chasing around the miracle we waited 13 years for. He is full of energy, joy and love; the typical 1 year old toddler. In my downtime, I'm a knitwear designer and a wannabe homesteader.
